Working as a Police Linguist
Providing Interpreting services for the Police or any Emergency Services is highly challenging and extremely rewarding. In many scenarios the success of a particular situation is driven by the ability of the interpreter to bridge the language barrier and relay clear and accurate messages.
thebigword team are recruiting experienced linguists to join our community and be involved in providing face to face interpreting services to Police Forces across England and Wales.
thebigword currently provide Linguist Services to multiple police forces throughout the UK and we hope to expand as we move into 2022. We are inviting linguists across the UK to register their interest with us.
We are looking to hear from linguists who have been providing interpreting services to the police already as well as interpreters who are looking to develop their knowledge and skills in this area.
thebigword is dedicated to supporting linguists and providing continuous professional development to ensure that all linguists continue to provide the best service possible
We are specifically interested in applicants residing in the following locations
You may have experience in the Criminal Justice sector already or be eager to begin your journey. We welcome you to apply and find out more.
Interpreters interested will need to meet the below requirements
- Level 6 Language Qualification - including but not limited to DPI (formally Met Police Test), DPSI (Law), DCI, APCI, BA Interpreting, MA Interpreting, IND Assessment etc.
- Fluency in English
- Active NPPV Level 3 Security Clearance (or be willing to go through the application process with us)
- Have the right to work in the UK and reside here permanently
Following the introduction of the National PAIT Register (Police Approved Interpreters and Translators) all linguists will need to meet one of the outlined PAIT statuses
Key Languages include but are not limited to,

|Spanish||Portuguese (Brazil & European)|
|Vietnamese||British Sign Language (BSL)|
